We have always been infatuated and curious about mermaids. This pretty much started when we watched The Little Mermaid for the first time. Ariel, a mermaid AND a princess, I mean, how lucky is she!! I remember spending hours upon hours in my pool pretending I was a mermaid swimming, flipping and combing my hair with a fork (yes this happened) and pretending I too had mermaid tails; Collecting sea shells at the sea and making jewelry out of them; ahh the memories. There's just something so mystical and mesmerizing about them and our obsession continues to this day ! This poem pretty by sums it up:
- Walter De La Mare -
MERMAID
Leagues, leagues over the sea I sail
Couched on a wallowing dolphin's tail.
The sky is on fire, the waves a-sheen,
I dabble my foot in the billows green.
In a sea-weed hat on the rocks I sit,
where tern and sea-mew glide and beat,
and where dark shadows the cormorants meet.
In caverns cool when the tide's a wash,
I sound my conch to the watery splash.
From out their grottos at evenings beam,
the mermaids swim with locks agleam.
